For a long time I have always wanted to print designs on my own fabric but I’d never found the one perfect design that completely resonated with me. And so the idea just lay dormant in the back of my mind. Then towards the end of last year my colleagues from The Fabric House in Cape Town and Ballito and I found a very different and unique print – and the lights went on! We just knew this is what we had been looking for. It was a beautiful sketch titled ‘ Sunflowers’ by Richard Roland Holst, originally painted by him in 1892 and shown in the picture above. We then commissioned African Sketchbook to hand paint something similar for us in all the shades of green that we love and of course with a touch of the very popular acid yellow! The results are shown in the pictures below. Then, to complete the process, we chose one of our favorite 100% linens and sent that off for printing.
Here is the linen transformed into a number of beautiful items …
A printed canvas – which I have placed in my lounge!
Gorgeous New Scatters in 65 x 65 and 70 x 50

We have so enjoyed doing this, and the response we have had has been amazing, so there is another form of the Sunflower in production. Watch this space!
